IVAN GRUBANOV (Belgrade, 1976) is a Serbian artist whose practice is marked by a post-conceptual approach to painting as a new medium. Through his paintings he deals with the production of knowledge, persistently asking challenging questions about our social and political reality.
Grubanov explores the boundaries of art as a tool for documenting and interpreting history through mixed techniques.
He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, majoring in painting. After graduating, he spent two years working in Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and a year at Delfina Studios in London. He received a scholarship at the Casa de Velazquez in Madrid in 2008.
His works are in the collection of the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, the Museum of Art in Bern, the Deutsche Bank collection in Frankfurt and many others.
