SAFET ZEC (Rogatica, 1943) graduated and received his masters from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, where he lived until the beginning of the war in former Yugoslavia, after which he moved to Italy. During the 70s, he was one of the most important representatives of poetic realism.
He has exhibited in over 70 solo exhibitions all over the world, and has won over 20 awards and recognitions for his work, including the The Knight of Arts and Literature (2007).
Even though he only built his reputation after going to Italy, he says: “I would not want anyone to go to the big world in the way I did. I wish that I was an unknown artist, and that the war never happened.”
